1. Read the passage and answer the questions given below:
Swami Vivekananda, once speaking in America, told of a young man who came to a religious teacher and said that he wanted to find God. The sage smiled and said nothing. The young man returned time after time, ever told him to accompany him as he went to the river to take his morning bath, and when both were in the river, the sage took hold of the young man and plunged him under the surface of the water and held him there. The young man struggled and struggled to shake off his hold. Finally, the sage raised him out of water, and asked him, "My son, what did you long for most when under water?" "A breath of air," gasped the youth. "Thus would the would-be disciple long after God if he would find Him. If you have this longing after God, verily He shall be found by you," said the sage.

a. Why did the young man go to the religious teacher?

The young man went to the religious teacher because he expressed a desire to find God.

b. Why did the young man repeat his visits?

The young man repeated his visits because he was seeking guidance and instruction on how to achieve his goal of finding God.

In "The Selfish Giant," Spring symbolizes kindness and happiness, while Winter represents selfishness and sadness. When the Giant is kind, Spring comes back, making everything beautiful. When he is selfish, Winter stays, making everything cold and sad.

There are fewer travellers on the rocky path because it’s more difficult and requires hard work and bravery.

g. Why did the king want to know answers to three questions?

The king wanted to know the answers to three questions as he wished to become a great ruler.

h. Why was the king advised to go to magicians?
The king was told that in order to decide the right time for doing something, it was necessary to look into the future. Since only magicians could do so, he was advised to go to magicians.

i. What is the secret that Meena shares with Mridu in the backyard?

Meena shared the secret that they have brought home a kitten which they found out that morning outside the gate. And they have kept him hidden.

J. Describe the music teacher as seen from the window.

As seen from the window, the bony figure of the music master, with most of his back to the window, could be seen sitting in front of Lalli. He had a mostly bald head with a fringe of oiled black hair falling around his ears and an old-fashioned tuft. A gold chain gleamed around his leathery neck and a diamond ring glittered on his hand as it glided up and down the stem of the violin. A large foot stuck out from beneath his gold-bordered veshti edge. He was beating time on the floor with the scrawny big toe.
