C. Fill in the blanks with a, an or the.

 

A Bear (indefinite article, introducing a new noun) and The Bees (definite article, referring to a specific group)

A bear (indefinite article, introducing a new bear) came across a log (indefinite article, introducing a new log) near an apple tree (indefinite article, introducing a new tree) where a swarm (indefinite article, introducing a new swarm) of bees had nested to make their honey. As he snooped around, a little bee (indefinite article, introducing a new bee) flew out of the log to protect the swarm (definite article, referring to the previously mentioned swarm).

The bee (definite article, referring to the bee mentioned before) knew the bear would get angry if it were disturbed and a single bee (indefinite article, introducing the idea of a single bee) is no match for an angry bear (indefinite article, describing the bear as angry). But afraid that the bear would eat all the honey (definite article, referring to the honey in the log), the little bee (definite article, referring to the bee mentioned before) stung him sharply on the nose (definite article, referring to a specific part of the bear) and flew back into the log (definite article, referring to the specific log mentioned before).

The bear (definite article, referring to the bear mentioned before) flew into an angry rage (indefinite article, describing a new state of anger). He swatted at the log (definite article, referring to the specific log) with his big claws, determined to destroy the nest (definite article, referring to the bees' nest) of bees inside. This only alerted the other bees (definite article, referring to the remaining bees in the swarm) and quick as a wink (indefinite article, introducing a short period of time) the entire swarm (definite article, referring to the whole group of bees) of bees flew out of the log (definite article, referring to the specific log) and began to sting the bear (definite article, referring to the bear mentioned before) from head to heel. The bear (definite article, referring to the bear mentioned before) saved himself by running and diving into a nearby pond (indefinite article, introducing a new pond).

 

E. Fill in the blanks with a, an or the.

F. Make the following groups of words assertive, interrogative, imperative,exclamatory according to the instructions given after each. One has been done for you.
