Good morning, respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends. Today, I stand before you to speak about the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda—a name that continues to inspire millions around the world.
Swami Vivekananda was a great philosopher, writer, patriot, spiritual leader, and Hindu monk. He was born on 12th January 1863 in Kolkata. His birth name was Narendranath Datta. His father, Vishwanath Datta, was a successful attorney at the Calcutta High Court, and his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Devi, was a deeply spiritual woman. Both played a major role in shaping his thoughts and personality.
His guru was Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, under whose guidance he attained spiritual enlightenment. In 1897, he founded the Ramakrishna Mission in honor of his guru. After the passing of his mentor, Swami Vivekananda represented India at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893. His powerful speech, beginning with the words “Sisters and Brothers of America,” captivated the audience and made him world-famous overnight.
Swami Vivekananda’s teachings continue to inspire people across the globe. He emphasized the power of youth, self-confidence, and service to humanity. His message of universal brotherhood and spiritual awakening remains relevant, especially for today’s youth. He believed that the future of a nation lies in the hands of its young people, urging them to be fearless, determined, and dedicated to their goals.
As he said, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” Let us all strive to follow his teachings and make our country and the world a better place.
Thank you.
